The Alcohol-Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas Policy outlines Council's approach to the inception and review of such zones and areas across the LGA.
It includes the public locations of Alcohol-Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas, Council's rights and the public responsibilities towards specified zones and areas.
This Policy demonstrates Council's commitment to:
- promoting safety in public spaces and;
- responsible social behaviour.
The Policy is aligned to the Safe and Strong destination of the Community Strategic Plan CBCity 2036.
In Canterbury-Bankstown there are restrictions on alcohol in some public spaces and, like all councils in New South Wales, we have alcohol restrictions in some outdoor locations. The restrictions are in place to prevent alcohol-related anti-social behaviour and crime in public places.
What is the difference between Alcohol Free Zones (AFZs) and Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APAs)?
Alcohol Free Zones apply to public roads and footpaths, while Alcohol Prohibited Areas apply to parks and civic spaces.
