Welcome to the City of Canterbury Bankstown 3D Digital Model – your interactive tool to explore how our City is evolving
This platform lets you visualise future developments and better understand what’s happening across our neighbourhoods.
You can explore everything from the existing buildings to proposed developments in in key areas like Bankstown City Centre and Canterbury Local Centre, as well as view local environment plan and development control plan controls.
We are currently trialling this new tool in Bankstown and Canterbury, but may expand to other areas in our City in the future.
It’s a powerful way to bring our planning vision to life.
The 3D Digital Model is meant to be used on a computer and is not compatible with mobile devices. For a better performance, please use google chrome as your browser.
Since this is a browser-based app that renders large files, performance will be subject to a number of factors such as internet speed, computer and server specifications. If you’re experiencing any performance issues like slowness or lack of responsiveness, please:
- allow some time for the model to fully load
- make sure you have a steady internet connection
- close any other apps or browser tabs that could be affecting your computer’s performance.
Instructions on how to use the online 3D modelling tool can be found here. We recommend having this open in a separate tab so you can use them while using the 3D Digital Model.
If you’re familiar with Google Maps, the navigation on this tool is very similar to it. Below is a list of the main actions that will help you use it.
- To pan – Click and drag the mouse to the sides, up or down.
- To zoom in and out – Scroll the middle mouse wheel.
- To change direction and tilt – Click and drag the middle mouse wheel to tilt on the axis of the mouse location. Use the keyboard arrow keys to tilt the camera on the axis of the camera.
Alternatively, you can use the navigation controls located at the right corner of the screen, double click on any of the layers to jump to it.
On the left end you’ll find the side bar with all the control buttons to explore layers and tools.
- Background Data: Data that is used to run the 3D terrain. Leave this turned on so the platform works at its best
- Context Models: Contains all the existing buildings of the Local Government Area.
- Master plans: Indicative built form of Bankstown and Canterbury Master Plans.
- LEP controls: Shows the different controls of Council’s local environment plan (LEP) in 3D form.
- DCP controls: Shows the different controls of Council’s Development Control Plan in 3D form.
- Other information: other information that you can explore, such as cadastre, flood areas, etc.
- Development Applications & SSDAs: the different models for Development Applications and State Significant Development Applications.
Here you’ll find all the available tools for further analysis. You can take measurements of distance, areas and volumes. You can also calculate the elevation profile along a route and use the viewshed tool to see what you can and cannot see from a certain point. This is useful to understand if a new development may impact views.
Under Environment you can turn on sun, shadows and fog and control time of day settings. In Maps you can turn on overlays with contour lines and slope maps.
All 3D models and data presented on this tool are meant for visualisation purposes only. If you require further information regarding any issues you’ve encountered, please email us at 3Dmodel@cbcity.nsw.gov.au
