Citizenship ceremonies

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the most unique and exciting cities in Australia!

Our citizenship ceremonies serve as both a warm welcome to new citizens, while formally ensuring new citizens are conferred according to the correct protocols, as set out in the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code.

CBCity conducts approximately 12-14 ceremonies each year. Ceremonies are held at different venues (usually in Bankstown or Campsie), depending  on how many conferees are allocated to each date (this can range from 120 to over 800 new citizens).

Upcoming citizenship ceremony dates:

  • Wednesday 16 October 2024
  • Monday 11 November 2024
  • Thursday 12 December 2024

Please note that these dates may be subject to change and additional ceremonies could be added.

Conferees will be contacted by the Department of Home Affairs when they have been allocated to a ceremony. The Department will send a letter of invitation, advising you of the ceremony details, including the date, time, venue and what you need to bring.

If you have any questions about the date of your ceremony please call the Department of Home Affairs, Citizenship Ceremonies NSW, on 131 880.

The Department of Home Affairs handle the allocation of conferees to ceremony dates. Council is unable to move applicants forward, change the allocated date, or provide advance notice as to which ceremony you will be allocated to, as Council do not manage these lists.

If you have received an invitation and are unable to attend the allocated ceremony, please contact the Department of Home Affairs on 131 880, who will be able to outline the next steps.
