Did you know, those pesky old electrical items that are cluttering up your home contain precious resources that could be recycled into new products?

Canterbury-Bankstown residents are encouraged to recycle right and give their electricals a new life at Council’s free e-waste drop off event.

Unwanted electrical waste can be disposed of in a safe and environmentally friendly manner at Bankstown Paceway, Condell Park, on Saturday 15 June from 9am-3.30pm.

In 2023, more than 31 tonnes of electrical waste were collected at Council’s drop-off events. More than97 per cent of those items were recycled into new products including construction materials, automotive parts and jewellery.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said the recycling e-waste events are a great way to reduce the number of products going into landfill each year.

“I encourage all locals to drop off your old gadgets and devices that are collecting dust,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“It’s a win, win for everyone, as many of these items can be transformed into useful products that can be used time and time again.”

Some of the items accepted include:

  • TVs, DVD players, speakers and sound equipment;
  • Laptops, computers, keyboards, mice and printers;
  • Phones (mobile and landline);
  • Small household appliances (fans, alarm clocks, vacuum cleaners);
  • Kitchen appliances (microwaves, kettles);
  • Hand tools; and
  • Cables, adapters and chargers.

The items above are not accepted in yellow recycle bins and can be hazardous if disposed incorrectly.
