Huge lineup of events to celebrate Italian culture

Canterbury-Bankstown is set to come alive with the vibrant sights, sounds and flavours of Italy as part of the much-loved “Let’s Go” cultural series, organised by City of Canterbury Bankstown’s libraries.

30 Jul 2025

Running from August to October 2025, Let’s Go Italian will immerse the community in Italian heritage through events that include musical performances, activities, delicious food demonstrations and so much more.

Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said the Let’s Go series brings worldwide culture to the community, without the price of travel.

Let’s Go Italian celebrates the traditions, food, music and stories that make Italy such a special place,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

The series will open with a spectacular night of live music on Friday 8 August, featuring an 8-piece show with some of Australia’s most popular Italian entertainers, paired with pizza and prosecco and featuring a welcome address by Luigi Di Martino, President of the Committee of Italians Abroad.

“We are so proud that the Council and its libraries are shining a spotlight on Italian culture,” Mr Di Martino said.

“Events like this are so important because they bring people of all ages together to share and experience culture,” he said. “I can’t wait to take my son to the gnocchi and gelato workshops.”

Other highlights include:

  • A stunning display of Ducati motorcycles at Bankstown Library on 8-9 August, showcasing the elegance and engineering brilliance of this iconic Italian brand.
  • Gelato-making demonstrations across our libraries from August to October, where children will discover the magic of authentic Italian gelato through hands-on activities and storytelling.
  • Giuseppe’s butchery masterclass at Campsie Library on 21 September, learning heritage techniques and sampling flavours from his Calabrese roots.
  • An exclusive author talk between acclaimed Looking for Alibrandi creator Melina Marchetta in conversation with journalist Sarah McDonald on 21 August.
