The Canterbury Road Review provided a new approach and vision for the Canterbury Road Corridor with the focus on integrated transport, land use and public amenity. This is aimed at achieving a more liveable environment.
The review consisted of in four parts: the main document, which contains the recommendations of the review, and three attachments, technical studies which informed the review. The four parts were on exhibition from 12 September 2017 to 24 October 2017.
Council gave consideration to the results of the exhibition of the review at its meeting of 22 May 2018. At that meeting, Council resolved to support the review in-principle and to undertake further work as per the recommendations of the review. The Council report and attachments can be viewed via the links below.
The recommendations of the review are detailed in Attachment A. Recommendation 14 was not adopted as it relates to land outside of the Canterbury Road Corridor.
The Council report and Attachments C and D of the report addressed comments made in submissions during the exhibition.
There is further work to be undertaken to fulfil the recommendations of the review. This work will be included as part of Council’s master planning process, where the recommendations of the review will be explored, tested and implemented for the centres along the Canterbury Road Corridor. This has been undertaken for the Campsie, with the review informing key actions in the Campsie Town Centre Master Plan. The recommendations of the review will be are currently being examined and tested in the Belmore, Lakemba and Canterbury Master Plans.
Through the master planning process Council will continue to consult with the community at key stages during the further work and before any decisions are made. Council will keep this page updated as the recommendations of the review are undertaken.
