The festive spirit will ring loudly across the City this year, with Council’s jam-packed line up of entertainment bound to bring Christmas cheer.
Mark your calendar for Thursday 28 November, when the festive fun will be switched on at the Lighting of the Christmas Tree at Paul Keating Park, Bankstown.
Experience the magic of Christmas coming alive as the 10-metre tree is lit up at 7.45pm, followed by performances from the Bankstown-Yagoona Marching band, CBCity Talent Advancement Program and local dance studios.
Be transported to a scene from your favorite Christmas movie as you stroll through the Bankstown Christmas Village Markets, from 5.30pm, for handmade gifts and delicious treats.
There will also be plenty of free kids’ activities including Christmas crafts, garden games a photobooth and face painting, along with a special visit from Santa and his Elves.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said he was excited to ring in the holiday season with an impressive program of events.
“There’ll be plenty of fun for the whole family at our Lighting of the Tree and Christmas Village Markets,” Mayor El-Hayek said.
“And our Carols in the Park are always a great opportunity for the community to come together and sing their hearts out.”
Mayor El-Hayek added while the holidays are a time for joy, they are also a time for giving.
“I encourage everyone to spare a thought for those who are struggling and will be forced to go without presents this year.”
The Mayoral Christmas Toy and Hamper Drive will collect donations for local charitable and not-for-profit organisations.
Residents can now drop off new and unwrapped children’s toys and items to Bankstown and Campsie Customer Service Centres and Bankstown and Campsie Libraries until Wednesday 11 December.
