Domestic and family violence occurs when someone who has a close personal relationship with you makes you feel afraid, powerless or unsafe.

It can be

  • Physical
  • Social
  • Financial
  • Sexual
  • Emotional
  • Verbal
  • Psychological
  • Technology facilitated
  • Spiritual

If you need help at any time, you can contact The Domestic Violence Line on 1800 65 64 63 (open 24 hours). This is a confidential telephone crisis counselling and referral service that also provides information about assistance available from police, courts and the law. Emergency accommodation needs can also be met.

Don't forget – even if you're not personally subjected to domestic violence, you shouldn't be silent, and it's important not to be a bystander when there is something you can do. It is not 'interfering' in other people's lives when this kind of abuse is present.

If you are, or someone else is, in immediate danger, call 000 immediately.

  • In an emergency always call 000

What we do

The City of Canterbury Bankstown has a Domestic Violence Liaison Committee working for our community, providing services to women, children or families where domestic violence is identified.

Meetings provide the opportunity for networking and sharing information about services, trends, training opportunities, community education and raising the awareness of the impact of violence on the lives of those subjected to it. These are all key areas each committee takes a leadership role in.

Council have launched a Say No to Domestic Violence and Say Yes to Healthy Relationships campaign including a youth domestic violence resource kit and posters.
