Each quarter, the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) releases crime statistics for all council areas across the state.
There has been a significant downward trend in the following major crime categories across the City of Canterbury Bankstown:
- Break and enter dwelling
- Break and enter non-dwelling
- Motor vehicle theft
- Steal from motor vehicle
- Steal from retail store
- Other stealing offences
- Malicious damage to property
The incidents of Domestic & Family Violence(DFV) in some parts of NSW has risen to over 30%, this is due to a combination of increased public willingness to report DFV, a broadening in the scope of what is considered to be DFV assault by either police or the community, or increased detection of DFV assault through more proactive policing and enforcement of DFV related offences.
Presented in the table below are the numbers of recorded incidents in the major crime categories across the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area (LGA) in 2022 in comparison to figures for 2024.
Latest crime statistics released by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) show that since reaching historic lows in September 2021, motor vehicle theft in NSW has been steadily increasing

Always lock your car doors and close all windows, including the sunroof, even when parking at home or leaving your car for a short time.
Choose parking spots that are well-lit and have good visibility, especially at night.
Don't leave any valuables, such as bags, wallets, or electronics, visible inside your car.
Always take your car keys with you, even when leaving the car for a short period.
Never leave your car running unattended.
A high-quality, audible car alarm and an engine immobilizer can deter thieves and make it harder to steal your vehicle.
A steering wheel lock can also act as a deterrent.
If your car has a keyless entry system, consider wrapping your key fob in something metallic to block the signals used in relay attacks.
When available, use secure car parking facilities, as they are often better patrolled and monitored.
Remove registration papers from your vehicle to prevent thieves from identifying your home and easily disposing of the vehicle.
A GPS tracker can help you locate your vehicle if it is stolen.
