Child friendly and safe CBCity

We are a Child Safe Organisation and CBCity is a proud supporter of the Convention on the Rights of the Child

We are a Child Safe Organisation

City of Canterbury Bankstown is committed to upholding the Convention on the Rights of the Child and we are continuously working through our Child-Friendly City Action Plan.

The Child Friendly City initiative is a UNICEF global initiative to ensure the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children are an integral part of public policies and programs.

In addition to this, CBCity is committed to being a Child Safe Organisation, as prescribed by the National Child Safe Scheme. The NSW Child Safe Standards provide a framework for ensuring organisations put the needs of children first and continually work to improve practices to keep children safe from harm.

Our City is home to a vibrant and culturally-diverse population, with a large proportion of the residents aged under 18. We are committed to upholding children's rights and, in particular, to making the City of Canterbury Bankstown a child-friendly City. Our aim is for children and young people to be active participants in the community, where they are acknowledged as equal citizens, and where their opinions are valued.

In order to inform future planning and continue developing our City in child friendly ways, we needed to assess the current status of our children's overall wellbeing. This encompasses their health, safety, learning and development, leisure and participation.

So, we did some research and spoke to a lot of people in our community to understand their thoughts and hear about what they want, especially children and young people.

Our Child Friendly CBCity Report and Report Summary in child friendly language, outlines what we found and how community members believe we can make our City a more child friendly place.

The Report identifies those areas where we are doing well, areas where improvements can be made, as well as other areas that require more data.

Children in our City are already doing well in many ways, and we are dedicated to the ongoing reporting and monitoring of their wellbeing. We look forward to a future where all children are healthy, and are developing and learning well. In becoming a child friend City, we strive to allow our children to feel safe, enjoy plenty of natural outdoor spaces and opportunities for leisure, and participate freely within communities.
