City of Canterbury Bankstown is helping residents make an informed decision on Referendum day, with dedicated sessions for those seeking more information on the Voice to Parliament.

Council’s “Your Choice, Your Voice” information sessions will arm attendees with balanced and unbiased information to ensure they are properly informed when it comes to the referendum on Saturday 14 October.

The sessions will cover: The Voice –what it means; the Constitution; the Referendum; what the vote is about; and historical background.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said while Council is supporting the establishment of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament, it is equally respectful of everyone’s views.

“It is very clear a huge number of Australians are confused and don’t fully understand what they are voting for,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“I want residents to be educated and comfortable making an informed decision on Referendum day.”

Four information sessions will be held at Bankstown and Campsie ahead of the Referendum:

Campsie

Campsie Library and Knowledge Centre 14/28 Amy Street, Campsie

• Tuesday 26 September, 10-11.30am
• Wednesday 11 October, 6-7.30pm

Bankstown

Bryan Brown Theatre and Function Centre 80 Rickard Road, Bankstown

• Wednesday 27 September, 6-7.30pm
• Tuesday 10 October, 10-11.30am

Along with the sessions, our nine Libraries will be displaying information on how to vote and staff can also assist residents in sourcing information online on one of our community-accessible computers.

Council has also established a dedicated “Your Choice, Your Voice” webpage, which provides information on the Referendum, Constitution, the Federal Government’s ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ referendum material and translated resources.
