An eight-year-old boy who supported his best friend undergoing chemotherapy, is one of the recipients of Canterbury-Bankstown’s Children and Youth Awards.

William Barbagallo received a Kindness Award, after being nominated by his friend Charbel Barakat, for the incredible loyalty and care he showed towards his friend.

“I was very sick during chemotherapy and radiation and couldn’t go to school,” Charbel said.

“William called me every single day to talk to me and we also played some games together. William always made me feel good and lifted my spirit.”

More than 120 young people across the City were nominated for this years’ awards, proving their remarkable contributions in the community.

Mayor Khal Asfour said he was incredibly proud of the strength, resilience, talent and kindness demonstrated in each and every nomination.

“From cutting their hair for charity, to starting a charity of their own, each nominee had a different story to tell,” Mayor Asfour said.

Mayor Asfour added that he was thrilled to see more nominations this year compared to last.

“We have so many inspiring young people in our City. It’s important that we hear their stories and celebrate them,” he said.

“I encourage everyone to visit Council’s Facebook page and read the inspiring stories of our award recipients.”
