Winners of the prestigious CBCity Women’s Awards were announced in a special ceremony yesterday (Monday 19 June).

The award aims to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of women within the community.

Presented by Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek, the winners were selected from an exceptional pool of nominees.

Belmore resident Sandra Younes was named the 2023 Woman of the Year, for her unwavering dedication and passion as a fitness and health trainer.

She took out the top award for positively impacting the lives of countless individuals through her commitment to promoting physical and mental wellbeing.

“I’ve got goose bumps to be honest, to be named Woman of the Year feels incredible,” Ms Younes said. “All of the hard work makes it worth it.”

Additionally, Panania resident Ronnie Wang was awarded Community Woman of the Year.

Ms Wang’s tireless efforts and advocacy through Asian Women at Work have provided invaluable support and empowerment to women within the community fostering inclusivity and equality.

Mayor El-Hayek expressed his admiration for the recipients and applauds all the nominees for their extraordinary contributions.

“We are incredibly proud to honour Sandra and Ronnie for their exceptional accomplishments,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“They exemplify the strength and resilience of women in our community and their dedication is truly inspiring.

“Each nominee is a testament to the strength and contributions of women in Canterbury-Bankstown. We commend you for your outstanding achievements and unwavering commitment to making a difference.”
