Reach new heights at an indoor rock-climbing excursion, hone your self-defense skills with an MMA expert and learn how to make a video game.

These are just some of the exciting activities for kids aged 5-18 years in City of Canterbury Bankstown’s Winter School Holiday Program.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said there’s no longer an excuse to stay at home these winter holidays.

“Our school holiday activities are the perfect remedy to beat the winter blues,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“We don’t want any kid to miss out on having fun. That’s why a number of our activities are free and low cost and within reach of the family budget.

“With our huge range of offerings, there’s something for all kids no matter their interests.”

Sporting enthusiasts can shoot goals in a netball clinic with Netball NSW, finesse their football skills in an introductory holiday program with Football Australia or test out their flexibility and strength at a gymnastics session.

For the craftier kids, there’s clay classes, an animation workshop, a landscape drawing class and a graffiti ceramic art workshop.

And the whole family can come together over a game of bingo or a movie session one of Council’s Library and Knowledge Centres.

Mayor El-Hayek also encouraged parents to enrol their children in the intensive swim school holiday program.

“It’s a great opportunity for children to get swimming lessons and improve their skills quickly.”

The school holiday activities are being held by Active Canterbury-Bankstown, Bankstown Arts Centre, Belmore Youth Resource Centre, Canterbury-Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centres and Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre. The program runs from Monday 8 July-Friday 19 July.
