Tis the season of giving, which sometimes means creating space by getting rid of old toys, mobile phones, Bluetooth earphones, singing cards or other small devices. But think first before throwing – many of these everyday items contain batteries and must not go in your household bins as they can explode and ignite, causing fires.
Look out for your family, neighbours and garbos this holiday period by safely disposing of hidden batteries by taking them to a safe drop-off.
Voices of CBCity, our new social cohesion podcast, has launched, with our first episode featuring Uncle Harry Allie.
From his upbringing as an Indigenous boy in a Queensland riven by the Aboriginal Protection Act to becoming an OAM and a respected elder in Canterbury-Bankstown, Uncle Harry’s story is heartbreaking and triumphant at the same time.
A descendant of the Gudjala people, Uncle Harry Allie AM BEM tells hosts Anna and James about his lived experiences, including how his family was divided by the Aboriginal Protection Act, joining the airforce and becoming a RAAF Indigenous Elder.
