What is the purpose of Corporate?

Put simply, Corporate delivers essential support and guidance, enabling our organisation to effectively provide services and programs to our community.

What is Corporate responsible for?

Corporate is responsible for several Council support functions, including, Finance, Governance and Property services, Legal, Policy, Audit as well as Procurement and Stores functions.

Our Governance and Property Teams:

  • Ensure our organisation receives the necessary governance oversight and expert advice to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee Council’s property transactions with efficiency and transparency.
  • Support our community in accessing council-held information, in line with the Government Information (Public Access) Act.
  • Ensure that Council meetings, advisory committees, and elections are conducted smoothly and effectively.

Our Finance Teams:

  • Oversee the comprehensive management and governance of Council’s financial operations.
  • Administer Council’s $0.5 billion annual operating budget and capital works program, providing financial analysis and strategic support to maintain strong financial performance.
  • Manage Council’s cash investment portfolio to optimise financial returns.
  • Handle the collection and administration of approximately $0.3 billion in rates and annual charges from ratepayers, ensuring efficient revenue management.

Our Procurement Teams:

  • Oversee, manage and administer the procurement process for goods and services sourced from external contractors and suppliers, ensuring efficiency and compliance.
  • Manage Council’s three depot stores, maintaining essential stock and products that support the effective management of our city.

Our Audit Team:

  • Oversee Council’s internal audit program and deliver assurance-based services, including probity reviews and investigations, to uphold Good Governance.

Our Legal Team:

  • Delivers comprehensive legal services and expert advice to Council across diverse areas, including property, planning, governance, audit, and regulatory matters.
  • Collaborates closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure strong legal outcomes that safeguard Council’s interests and benefit the broader community.
