Waste in apartment blocks - resident

Everything you need to know about waste when you live in an apartment block

Bins are allocated to apartment buildings based on the number of units. This is done during the site's development application, to make sure that the bin storage areas are the right size for the building's needs.

Depending on the building's design, bins are either collected from the bin area or from the kerbside. The following services are allocated to suit the needs of the building:

Council or building management, who does what?

Both Council and your building's management play an important role in the smooth collection of waste and recycling from your building. While they often work together they each have distinct roles.

  • Empty bins.
  • Collects Booked Clean Ups.
  • Manages illegal dumping on public land.
  • Provides education to residents about how to use these services.
  • Arranges Booked Clean ups with Council.
  • Maintains the bin storage room including regular washing of bins and floor, picking up items on the ground and reporting broken bins to allow the truck to empty the bins
  • Manages dumping on private property.
How can I help

To keep our City Clean and Green we need your help. Here is a list of actions you can take to make your building a better place to be:

  • Talk to your neighbours - a smile and some friendly tips can go a long way
  • Place waste information guides in the letterbox or under the front door
  • Promote "NO Junk Mail" stickers
  • Report illegal dumping at cb.city/reportit
  • Put up posters in common areas

Stickers, posters and flyers are all available from Council. To request materials, call 9707 9000 or complete the Waste Education Request form and send to Council@cbcity.nsw.gov.au
