Council's Hardship Assistance Policy recognises there are times in our lives when we struggle to pay our bills. This might be as a result of unemployment, sickness, lower income or other significant disadvantaging life events. The policy allows a ratepayer, who is experiencing genuine financial hardship, to make an application to Council for assistance.
If you are experiencing financial hardship and are struggling to pay your rates, there are a number of options for you.
Periodical Payment Plan
If you are unable to pay your rates by the due date, you can submit a payment arrangement. Council’s policy allows for regular periodical payments. You can select the frequency of weekly, fortnightly or monthly by completing the Payment Arrangement Application.
Pensioner Rebate
If you have recently been granted a Pension Concession Card by the NSW Government, you may be eligible to apply for a pension rebate on your rates account.
To apply, complete the Application for Council Pension Concession Rates Rebate.
Defer Rates & Charges Payment
If you are receiving a pension rebate on your rates account, Council’s policy enables you to apply for an agreement to defer payment of your rates and charges for up to 19 years. Interest still accrues on any overdue rates and must be kept under 19 years outstanding.
More information can be found on the Pension Agreement application to defer rates, charges and interest.
