Canterbury-Bankstown Animal Shelter is an independent specialist facility contracted by Council, to receive dogs found straying, or have been seized in our City. It seeks new homes for animals that cannot be returned to their owners.
Dogs and cats may also be surrendered to the shelter but only under specific circumstances, and by prior arrangement.

Prior to rehoming, dogs and cats are desexed, lifetime registered, vaccinated and microchipped. They also leave the shelter with a collar and tag. The shelter has a wide range of dogs and cats for sale and all are temperament tested.
The shelter operates under a 'low euthanise' practice. Every attempt is made to rehome all animals suitable for adoption. Euthanising is a last resort and only if the dog or cat is assessed to be a danger to the community or has an illness that adversely affects its quality of life.
