Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre

The new Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre is due to be completed late 2026.

The multi-million-dollar investment in our City’s future will serve generations to come. Construction has progressed steadily and will be moving into the next stage after 1,020 concrete piles were installed and around 12,500 cubic metres of concrete poured to support the new buildings.

You can follow our progress on our timeline above and we will update you here as the project moves forward.

Customers should note that our memberships and visit passes are accepted across all Canterbury-Bankstown Leisure & Aquatic Centres at Birrong, Revesby and Roselands. Should you have any questions regarding your membership please contact the centre directly on 9707 5500 or via email at canterburyaquatic@cbcity.nsw.gov.au

We will post updates on this page and on our social media platforms. Updates will include progress photos, time lapse footage and general information as the project progresses

As with all construction, the timing will be heavily dependent on weather. The project is scheduled for completion late 2026.

We have engaged Lipman, a Tier 2 contractor with more than 50 years’ experience in the building industry in NSW, to build the new Centre. They recently completed the new Parramatta Aquatic Centre.

Lipman has an obligation to manage noise levels and install dust mitigation measures in accordance with the EPA guidelines. We have also engaged NSW Public Works as the Project Managers to ensure the contractor delivers in accordance with documentation and relevant legislation and guidelines to minimise impact on residents.

Access to the basketball court may be affected at times during construction for safety reasons.
The new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre is only part of a project to rejuvenate Tasker Park. We will be engaging with the community in the future about this, including the basketball court, a new playground and a shared path crossing over the Cooks River.

A temporary path has been built for use during the construction period. When your new Centre is complete, the temporary path will be removed and a new shared pathway built.

The figs at the front of the centre will be protected and retained. The trees in between the Ice Rink and Leisure & Aquatic Centre car park will remain and the palm trees at the front of the Leisure & Aquatic Centre will be removed, protected and maintained during construction and re-planted in other locations later in the project timeline.

Seven trees on the Phillips Ave nature strip will be removed as a new shared path will be constructed in place of the existing footpath. However, in line with our tree management policy, those trees will be replaced with two new trees for every tree which is removed. This will ensure the look and feel of the streetscape is preserved.
The lane behind the Leisure & Aquatic Centre will not re-open for safety reasons. It will be used on a regular basis by large delivery trucks for both the Leisure & Aquatic Centre and the Canterbury Ice Rink, which means it is not safe for this to be shared with pedestrians and bikes.

The new shared path to be constructed on Phillips Ave will wrap around the Centre and link up to the Cooks River Bridge. It will also line up with a new bridge across the river which will improve the flow in general.
