The rapid growth of Bankstown CBD, driven by major commercial and transport developments (such as Western Sydney University, Sydney Metro and Bankstown Central shopping centre), means that our existing stormwater network needed to be upgraded.

Our previous stormwater network along The Appian Way and North Terrace had limited capacity and intense rainfall events caused high-risk flooding that affected properties, roads and pavements.
This project was designed to upgrade the stormwater network to significantly reduce flood risks and support the ongoing development and transformation of the precinct. This was done by increasing drainage capacity under the road surfaces of North Terrace, The Appian Way and The Mall, using pipes and culverts.
Construction was carried out over 18 months in stages to minimise impact on the community, requiring road closures for a few months at a time, with diversions in place.
This new stormwater network will mitigate flood impacts in Bankstown CBD during heavy rainfall events and pave the way for the Bankstown Complete Streets Project.

Stage 3
