Sign up for a cricket clinic with the Sydney Thunder team or go on a free mega movie night at the cinemas, as registrations to a huge range of thrilling summer school holiday programs open up.

Belmore Youth Resource Centre (BYRC), Active Canterbury-Bankstown, all of Canterbury- Bankstown’s nine Library and Knowledge Centre branches and Bankstown Arts Centre have handpicked more than 20 school holiday programs for primary and high school-aged students, with a guide to every activity being made easily accessible so every young person can participate.

“Our City is home to tens of thousands of young people who are so culturally diverse, openminded and supportive of each other. Our School Holiday Programs in Canterbury- Bankstown guide focuses on what unites and connects them, and offers genuinely cool activities they can all take part in,” Mayor Khal Asfour said.

Mayor Asfour said providing fun and engaging activities, which cater and appeal to a wide range of ages and interests, helps young people thrive. and remains a priority for Council.

“This is one of my priorities and our school holiday program takes the stress out of trying to find fun things to do so that you, or someone you know who is looking for local activities, can literally sit back, relax and have fun. All that person needs to do is to register in an activity,” he said.
Activities are either all free or charge a small fee to cover costs such as transport.

These activities include:

  • A skateboarding clinic, led by Totem Collective;
  • Library scavenger hunts, summer reading clubs and nifty craft activities;
  • Trips to the beach where participants will get the opportunity to learn how to surf;
  • Trips for the whole family to go kayaking together;
  • Dancing workshops;
  • Self-defence lessons; and
  • Archery and laser tag, and so much more.

“We’ve put together a truly eclectic blockbuster of local programs and to help kick everything off, the BYRC will be having an awesome Open Day which features live music, a food truck and ice cream bar. I’d love to see our young people register for what’s set to become a memorable summer holiday and not miss out,” Mayor Asfour said.
