Council Update - Winter edition 2026

Our new quarterly newsletter letting you know what we’ve been doing to create a City you love

10 Jul 2026

With the start of the new financial year, we begin a new $120 million capital projects program.

Over the next 12 months, we’ll be working on 162 projects across our City, including major upgrades to roads, footpaths, buildings and amenities.

Some of the projects I’m looking forward to are:

  • Opening the new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatics Centre and progressing the Campsie Hub
  • Moving forward with the new Kevin Hill Roberts Park Community Centre and Thurina Park Community Centre.
  • Building new destination play spaces at Wiley Park in Wiley Park and Goondah Reserve in Villawood and a new sporting amenities building at Bill Delauney Reserve in Revesby Heights.
  • Supporting programs that build pride in our town centres, including a city-wide mural program, upgrades in East Hills and beautification works along Haldon Street, Lakemba, as well as focusing on illegal dumping and responsible management of waste.

I am excited about our plans over the next year to continue delivering services and projects for our community.

Regards,

Mayor Bilal El-Hayek

Our next chapter

Our City is one of Australia’s largest and fastest-growing by population, and we’re planning ahead to support our diverse community. Our revised 2025-29 Delivery Program outlines the services, projects and improvements for 2026/27, focused on building a thriving, dynamic and real City.

We’ll continue to deliver new and upgraded parks, facilities and everyday spaces, boost economic activity, support major events and invest in more vibrant town centres.

Update: A fresh focus on cleaner streets and centres

We’ve been delivering a fresh focus on cleaner, tidier streets and centres across our City.

In recent months Council has:

  • Cleaned more than 1,200 stormwater pits and drains
  • Pruned more than 6,000 trees to improve safety and tree health
  • Deep cleaned pavements in 25 neighbourhood centres
  • Introduced a monthly pavement washing program for more than 103,500m2 of pavement across local town centres
  • Deep cleaned seven multistorey carparks in town centres

Alongside this we’ve started installing new, user-friendly bins in town centres and are working regularly to address needs in neighbourhood centres like tidying laneways, removing litter, graffiti and illegal dumping.
