Message from the Mayor

Council finished the year on a high note with the completion of several major projects including the Canterbury Road and Charles Street intersection and the $9M Canterbury Road Underpass.

We were also busy upgrading more than 10 major parks and installing new footpaths and roads across the City.

We have been working to deliver more than $50M worth of upgrades to create a City you love, a goal we will continue to work towards this year.

In 2025, you can expect to see more than $5M worth of road resurfacing and the completion of the Appian Way and North Terrace drainage upgrades.

Work will start on the second stage of Milperra drain widening and on the bike track and playground at Deepwater Park, Milperra. We will also commence work on a new amenities block at Waterworth Park, Earlwood and a new playground at Ewen Park, Ashbury.

For residents wanting to cool off, I encourage you to make a splash at one of our Leisure and Aquatic Centres and for families looking for a fun day out, visit one of our recently revamped parks. With school set to return in the coming weeks, I urge you all to slow down on our roads and keep everybody safe.

Regards,

Mayor Bilal El-Hayek

Have your say Campsie Hub

The new Campsie Hub, to be built on Council’s existing Campsie Civic Centre site, will be the new home of Campsie Library and Knowledge Centre and Campsie Customer Service Centre. It will also be a multi-purpose building for the community, including recording and rehearsal spaces, community rooms, a new outdoor plaza and more.

A concept design for the Campsie Hub is now ready for your feedback. This design was created based on previous community engagement and shows the overall look and feel of the project.

Let us know what you think and how you’ll use the area to learn, play and relax at cb.city/HaveYourSay before Wednesday 12 February.

Beautifying our City with colour

Splashes of colour have been popping up across our City, including nine eye-catching murals created by street artists and local teens as part of the Canterbury-Bankstown Better Walls program, funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.

Projects like this not only bring life to neglected walls, but also help reduce graffiti. We’re now targeting graffiti using AI technology on our street
sweepers which can detect even small patches of graffiti. In 2024, there were 1,100 incidents of graffiti detected and removed, compared to 400 in the previous year.

Slow down in school zones

We’re continuing to take action against speeding on our roads. Over the Christmas/New Year period, we warned drivers to Slow Down in Canterbury-Bankstown and offered bin stickers to residents to help convey the message. You can request one at cb.city/SlowDown

At the start of the new school term, we’ll be reminding drivers to take extra care around schools. If you would like to contribute to road safety, why
not join our new community jury?

Splash into summer

Our splash parks are a hit! Kids are cooling off for FREE at Greenacre Splash Park and the new splash pad at Paul Keating Park.

The award-winning splash park at Birrong Leisure & Aquatic Centre is included in the entry fee to the pool – or FREE for under 5s.

Parks upgraded for summer

Our recently revamped parks include Deverall Park in Condell Park and Hurlstone Memorial Reserve in Hurlstone Park.

Work is continuing at The Crest in Bass Hill, Beaman Park in Earlwood and Croydon Park in Croydon Park and these should be complete early this year.

Canterbury is moving forward

The Canterbury Road underpass, officially opened in December 2024, is the final stage in the redevelopment of Canterbury Town Centre.

This project included an upgrade of the Canterbury Town Centre intersection designed to make it safer for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The $9M redesign of the underpass improved accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Nearby, the new multi-million-dollar Canterbury precinct project is underway with the Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre under construction and major upgrades scheduled for Tasker Park.
