Collections

Books are at the heart of our libraries – but there's so much more! Did you know that we also have music, movies and a collection of photographs? Plus books and other resources in a wide range of community languages. Come into your local branch and find out more, or take a look at the list and links below for an idea of what you will find.

There are hundreds of thousands of books in our collection, including fiction, non-fiction and all kinds of reference items for readers of all ages. Looking for something in particular? Just ask our helpful librarians how to find it.

If you have questions about drugs, you can find up-to-date information on a state-wide level at drug info @ your library.

Movies, documentaries and more! We have a wide range of DVDs for children, youth and adults in all our libraries.

Our HSC resources have the information you need to help you through Year 12. Our collection includes Excel study guides, DVDs, English literature notes, English and drama texts and author profiles. 

Interlibrary loans allow you to borrow items that are not available in our libraries from other libraries throughout NSW and Australia. It's also known as interlibrary lending.

Our large print collection is full of variety! You will find fiction and non-fiction shelved together alphabetically in our large print areas.

'Find Legal Answers' gives you free access to legal information, including the Legal Toolkit and a selection of plain English books on the law. Some of the information is also available online from the Find Legal Answers website.

Want to know more about our area? Our Local Studies collection is a specialised collection of material covering historic and current aspects of Canterbury-Bankstown.

Magazines for all! We subscribe to a wide range of magazines, both popular and specialist. Many of our magazines can be borrowed but the more technical and specialist periodicals can only be read in the library - ask a librarian for more details.

For music lovers, some of our libraries have CD music collections including children's, classical, country and western, jazz, pop, rock and world music.

Follow world and local news with our local, metropolitan and national newspapers, including papers in community languages. Current issues are available in print while some back issues are available on microfilm at Bankstown. 

We have a collection of photographs depicting the history of Canterbury-Bankstown. You can find photos of the Canterbury area online at Pictorial Canterbury, or search the catalogue for "Bankstown City Library Photograph Collection" for the Bankstown area. You can also arrange to see the Bankstown photographs in person at the Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre – call 9707 9728.

Our talking book collection has books on CD for both adults and children. You can also find eAudio books in our eLibrary.

We can borrow books in an even wider range of languages from the State Library of NSW.  Please ask at your local library for more information. This is a free service.
