Have your say on the Tasker Park precinct upgrades coming soon including basketball court, new playground and new paths and cycleways.
A Council spokesperson said the construction of the state-of-the art $65 million Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre, adjacent to Tasker Park, is well and truly underway, and as previously stated, a project of this scale will involve some disruption and inconvenience.
Some locals have expressed concerns about the future of the basketball court which sits on the boundary of the new facility, however those concerns are unwarranted, as Council is committed to retaining a court within Tasker Park.
Signage which was erected on the court over the last few days should have read ‘temporarily closed’ while works are being undertaken. This is being done for safety reasons.
Council is currently planning for the permanent location of the half-basketball court, along with a new playground, new paths and is seeking funding to build a new bridge with cycleways to connect the facilities to Canterbury Station and existing cycleways along to the Cooks River. Council is also planning to increase the number of parking spaces.
In the interim, Council will construct a temporary half-court close by, within Tasker Park.
The spokesperson said the refurbishment of the Canterbury Ice Rink, the construction of the Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre and the upgrade of Tasker Park and surrounds will be a sporting complex to be envied.
The proposed plans will be available on Council’s Have Your Say page on Wednesday 16 October 2024. To participate in our survey, or share your thoughts visit cb.city/HaveYourSay
