Kootsie Don and The Donovans have been announced as the headline acts for the Canterbury-Bankstown NAIDOC Family Fun Day on Saturday 1 July.

The event, to be held from 10am-3pm at Bankstown City Gardens, will feature:

• Live music and performances;
• Cultural workshops;
• Indigenous games;
• An Australian animal show;
• Kid’s activities; and
• A free barbecue.

Headliner, Kootsie Don is an independent rising Indigenous Australian rapper, singer, songwriter, and said NAIDOC was her favourite time of year.

“It brings us mob together to celebrate our existence, our amazing culture and achievements as First Nations people,” Kootsie Don said.

“It’s great to connect with other mobs from different regions and share our stories and strength with one another.”

She has garnered international acclaim for her soulful melodies and powerful lyrics.

She won Best New Talent at the Bump National Indigenous Community Hip Hop Music Awards in 2021 and was also nominated for Best New Artist and Artist of the Year at the National Indigenous Music Awards in 2022.

Her recent release Lemme Know is being featured on many international Spotify playlists.

The Donovans (The Donovan Band) are an Australian Aboriginal country music band. The band won a Deadly Award in 2004 and they’ve previously graced the stages at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El Hayek said Council was dedicated to promoting cultural diversity within the community.

“This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the history and achievements of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and I encourage everyone to take part,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

NAIDOC Week, held 2-9 July, is an annual celebration to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Other NAIDOC Week celebrations include an exciting line up of events, workshops and community activities all aimed at educating, inspiring and entertaining attendees.
