Some of the brightest young minds in Canterbury-Bankstown have taken part in a special CSIRO initiative known as Generation STEM. It’s all about inspiring our future thinkers and showcasing the exciting career paths they can embark on - right here in our City.

Partnered with CBCity, the CSIRO program empowers our young people with the relevant STEM skills to pursue a STEM career. Most importantly, it helps build a strong community of STEM-capable citizens to fuel local industry.

More than 160 Year 9 and 10 students have taken part in Generation STEM. Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said students were able to address challenges that we face every day.

“We’re an incredibly diverse City, and our students are intelligent and talented. Generation STEM is giving our students the opportunity to challenge themselves and explore their potential,” Mayor Asfour said.

“I’m thrilled that Council is supporting the next generation of STEM professionals. These students are the future of our industry and our workforce. And they’re gaining experience in solving real-world and local issues.”

Our schools have been able to connect with industry by attending site visits to Western Sydney Airport, Lincoln Electric, TAFE Taster Program at Padstow and Quickstep. Students have been exposed to local career opportunity while also developing their STEM skills that will prepare them for the future workforce.

The STEM Community Partnerships Program creates partnerships between local schools and industry, providing avenues for students to develop their STEM skills in an engaging and rewarding way.

The high schools in Canterbury-Bankstown have been working hard to develop their STEM solutions for problems happening in their area.

More than 160 students have taken part in the program; schools include Punchbowl Boys High School, Belmore Boys High School, Bankstown Girls High School, Canterbury Boys High School, Condell Park High School, East Hills Girls Technology High School, La Salle Catholic College, Wiley Park Girls High School and Mount St Joseph Catholic College
