The Crest at Bass Hill is home to a local football club and two cricket associations and is popular with locals and the wider community.

City of Canterbury Bankstown has invested more than $4 million on upgrades including the installation of drainage and irrigation systems, refurbishment of the amenities building, the replacement and upgrade of lighting, and the installation of a protective ball screen.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said he was proud of the works carried out which will benefit the entire community.

“Together with the recently upgraded playground and exercise equipment, the new lighting and playing fields will make the park a popular spot for both locals and athletes,” Mayor El-Hayek said.

“The upgrades to the drainage system should mean we get to see more games played throughout the year while the new lighting will ensure a safer and more welcoming space for families to also make use of the park.”

Bankstown Sports Strikers Football Club secretary, Mark Merlino, agreed and said the club, players and spectators are all thrilled to play more games on their home ground.

“The Club is really excited about the upgraded facilities and fields, and we are looking forward to a big season and not too many wash outs,” Mark said.

“We’re expecting that this transformation will increase participation and engagement as teams can now rely on the new drainage system for consistent training and game schedules, even during wet weather periods.”

Funding for the project is in partnership with the NSW Government through a $1.59 million grant awarded through the NSW Office of Sport’s Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.
