Looking for yet another reason to celebrate Lunar New Year? Come along and join in the fun at Campsie Lunar Noodle Markets, 4 February at Anzac Mall, Campsie.
Tempt your taste buds with a scrumptious variety of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean cuisine. Once you’ve finished tasting the unique food on offer, get ready to be enthralled with the great variety of entertainment!
The stage will light up with the talented Adagio Acrobats, Taiko Drummers and dancers from the ShanShan Dance Studio. Another highlight is the always-popular Lion Dance and the Campsie Catwalk, featuring the Chinese traditional costume showcase from Yunnan Arts Troupe.
Make sure you meet and greet the spectacular “Lantern Lady”, along with the God and Goddess of Fortune, who’ll be roaming around the event, spreading Lunar New Year wishes.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour is looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors to the Lunar New Year celebration for the Year of the Rabbit and Cat.
“The noodle markets have become a drawcard for our city and provide a cultural experience for locals and visitors,” Mayor Asfour said.
“I urge families to come along and try some of the fantastic food and be entertained by some talented locals. And of course, there is the magical Lion Dance.
“The significance of this event is not lost on me and I’d like to wish everyone peace, happiness, prosperity and good health.”
Another highlight of the Noodle Market will be the giant Xiangqi mat, for those keen to show off their Xiangqi playing skills. Xiangqi, which is also called Chinese chess, is a strategy board game for two players. It’s also the most popular board game in China.
The Xiangqi mat will be provided by the National Australian Xiangqi Federation, a group of volunteers devoted to promoting the game, as well as promoting Chinese culture.
Activities for kids include face painting and a lantern and fan-making workshop. And, for kids needing to burn off some energy, the park offers plenty of playground fun for all ages to enjoy.
