Celebrating Torres Strait Islander Culture & Knowledge Workshop

Wednesday 3 June, 10am-2pm 

Come along for a special cultural workshop celebrating and respecting the vibrant identity of Torres Strait Islander peoples. 

Guided by Torres Strait Islander culture keepers, participants will engage in storytelling, cultural sharing and hands on activities. Attendees will hear lived experiences, explore cultural practices and gain insight into the rich heritage that continues to shape Torres Strait Islander communities today.

What to expect

  • Smoking Ceremony performed by the Torres Strait Islander Group
  • Welcome to Country delivered by a Dhurag Elder
  • Cultural presentation sharing Torres Strait Islander life stories, traditions and cultural experiences from respected knowledge holders
  • A Torres Strait Islander dance group performance showcasing traditional movement, rhythm and storytelling
  • A Traditional Torres Strait Islander group activity

Lunch provided.

The Wiradjuri Language for Beginners program is traditionally taught through story, song, art and direct instruction, using a variety of resources and activities.
