Lakemba Nights during Ramadan road closures and permits

Each year, thousands of people from across Sydney come to take part in Lakemba Nights during Ramadan, held on and around Haldon Street, Lakemba.

Please note that there will be a change in parking regulations for the duration of this event in Lakemba. Some sections of Haldon Street, Oneata Street, Gillies Street and The Boulevarde will turn into No Stopping Tow Away zones every Thursday-Sunday from 3.30pm-6pm from 19 February-15 March. Please read the signage and comply with new regulations to avoid being towed. 

Each year, thousands of people from across Sydney come to take part in Lakemba Nights during Ramadan, held on and around Haldon Street, Lakemba. The event has grown significantly over the years and to maintain safety for all event patrons and manage traffic in the local area, a series of traffic management initiatives have been developed.

Road closures

The following road closures will be in place Thursdays to Sundays, 4pm to 4:30am, from Thursday 19 February to Sunday 15 March 2026, with the exception of The Boulevarde, which will open at 4am(Please note: Sunday 15 March 2026 will be the last night of Lakemba Nights during Ramadan 2026):

  • Haldon Street between Railway Parade and Gillies Street;
  • Haldon Street between 168 Haldon Street and Grace Avenue;
  • The Boulevarde between Croydon Street and Quigg Street; (The Boulevarde will open at 4am)
  • Gilles Street between Quigg Street and Haldon Street;
  • Gillies Lane between Gillies Street and Quigg Street;
  • Oneata Street between Croydon Street and Haldon Street; and
  • Oneata Lane between The Boulevarde and Oneata Street. 

Detour routes

Detour routes will be used to divert traffic around the closures as follows:
  • Southbound traffic in Haldon Street north of the railway line will be detoured using Railway Parade/Moreton Street/The Boulevarde/Quigg Street/Grace Avenue/Haldon Street to Canterbury Road.
  • Northbound traffic in Haldon Street will be detoured using Grace Avenue/Quigg Street/The Boulevarde/Moreton Street to Lakemba Street.
  • Eastbound traffic in The Boulevarde west of Haldon Street will be detoured using Croydon Street to Canterbury Road.
  • Westbound traffic in The Boulevarde east of Haldon Street will be detoured using Quigg Street/Grace Avenue/Haldon Street to Canterbury Road.

Resident and business access permits

To maintain resident and business access, a permit system has been developed to allow access when the road closures are operational.

As shown on the map below, there are five colour coded permits that residents and businesses can apply for. Permits are provided free of charge.

If you will need to access the red, orange, green, blue, or yellow zones from 19 February-15 March 2026, between 4pm and 4:30am, you will need to apply for a free permit. Please note: Sunday 15 March 2026 will be the last night of the event.

  • Red Permits are only available for residents and businesses that access properties via Oneata Lane and Oneata Street.
  • Orange Permits are only available for residents and businesses that access properties via Gillies Lane and Gillies Street as well as properties between 157-171 Haldon Street.
  • Green Permits are only available for residents and business that access properties via Haldon Street north of the Aldi Supermarket, as well as properties between 173-211 and 164-210 Haldon Street.
  • Blue Permits are only available for residents and business that access properties via Haldon Street south of the Aldi Supermarket, as well as properties between 213-259 and 230-256 Haldon Street. Please note: this permit will only be required from 9pm Thursday and 8pm Friday to Sunday.
  • Yellow Permits are only available for residents and business that access properties 61-67 Haldon Street via The Boulevarde. 

Applying for a permit 

To apply for a permit, you will need to provide your proof of residential address, registration details and parking/garaging details.

Please note: if you apply for an access permit before 5pm, Thursday 12 February, your access permit will be delivered between Monday 16-Thursday 19 February.

For all online applications received after 5pm Thursday 12 February, please allow up to 5 business days for your permit to arrive in your letterbox or nominated address on the application. 

If you do not have an access permit, you will not be able to access these streets during the event.
