Each year, children and books are brought together to celebrate Children’s Book Week, when schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian Children's Literature.

In 2026 we will be celebrating Children’s Book Week!
The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has chosen this year's theme: 'A Symphony of Stories' — celebrating the diversity and harmony of storytelling.
So, explore new and exciting adventures through books with Canterbury-Bankstown Libraries from Saturday 22 August to Friday 28 August 2026.

Get involved!
We invite kindergarten classes and homeschooling groups in Canterbury-Bankstown to make a special Children’s Book Week library visit to any of our nine branches.
These visits will be educational and fun and will introduce students to their local library. Students will learn about CBCity library resources, collections and programs. Plus, we will share some of the books on the Notables list and shortlist of CBCA’s 2026 Book of the Year Awards.

The CBCity Libraries’ Children’s Book Week show is hitting the road again.
Our librarians are on an adventure to visit schools across Canterbury-Bankstown.
We look forward to visiting your school to present our libraries’ collections and programs to your students.
This presentation is aimed at Early Stage One/Stage One (K-2) students.

Some of the Book Week books have escaped from its original location and are hiding in the library.
Can you help us find the ten book covers?
The book covers will be hiding from Monday 17 August until Friday 4 September.
Visit your local library to discover their hiding spots. There will be one winner from each library drawn at random from the correct entries.
Design a new bookmark for our libraries! Get creative and design an original bookmark inspired by books, reading, libraries or your favourite book characters. You can use drawing, words, collage or mixed-media art (please do not use 3D materials).
The competition is open for children aged 2-17.
The competition open Monday 17 August and closes Friday 4 September.
Why enter?
- The winning bookmarks will be available at all nine CBCity Library and Knowledge Centres.
- Winning entries will be presented at your school assembly.

Eligibility
Entrants must be a resident or ratepayer of the City of Canterbury Bankstown ("Council") or attending a school in the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area.
Entrants must be under 18 years old.
When to enter
The competitions commence at 9:30am on Monday 17 August 2026 and concludes at 5pm on Friday 11 September 2026. Entries must be received by Council before the competition close date and time.
How to enter
Bookmark design competition
The theme of the bookmark must be based on books, reading, libraries or your favourite book characters. Use words, drawing, collage, mixed art (no 3D materials)
Entry conditions
One entry per eligible person.
Judging
Entries for the drawing competition will be judged in age categories by CBCity Library staff
Winners will be contacted on Monday 7 September 2026 via their school.
Prizes and winning
Scavenger hunt winners will be awarded a book pack.
