Wendy Bowie

Wendy excelled early in swimming and won her first Gold Medal in 1974 as a nine year old. In 1982, she represented Australia at the Brisbane Commonwealth Games and in 1983 participated in the Canada Cup and Japan Pacific Games in Tokyo. In same year, Wendy would win a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

Beginnings

Wendy lived in Kerrie Avenue, Regents Park and become a member of Birrong Amateur Swimming Club (ASC) and Padstow ASC. She competed in club, Western Suburbs District and Metropolitan Meets. In 1974, she would win a Gold Medal for the 100m Breaststroke and become the Metropolitan Champion. Wendy broke Open Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly Records in Western Suburbs District Swimming Champ ships and was the recipient of SSWSSSA Blues for Swimming in 1982 while at Birrong Girls High School.

Achievements

Wendy represented Australia in the 1982 Commonwealth Games held at Brisbane. Wendy competed in the 100 metres Breaststroke reaching the finals and placing 7th.

Post Representation

Wendy's swimming tradition would be continued by her daughter Olivia Halicek who would represent Australia in the World Championships in 2011.
