The City of Canterbury Bankstown today mourns the passing of Cobar Mayor Lilliane Brady OAM.

Ms Brady, the state’s longest serving female Mayor, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, at the age of 90.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said Ms Brady was a strong advocate for her community and her tough talking no nonsense approach won her high praise among politicians and business people alike.

“But it was the love and respect from her community which inspired and drove her, serving them for nearly forty years,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Our City formed a very close bond with the people of Cobar after establishing a Sister City Agreement in 2007.

“That bond was especially evident during the recent drought when we raised funds and sent staff to help the embattled town to get through the crisis.”

As a mark of respect the Council is flying its flags at half-mast.

“You meet a lot of people in your life, but Ms Brady has truly left indelible mark on me,” Mayor Asfour said.

“On behalf of Council, I want to express our deepest condolences go to her family, friends, and the community of Cobar.”
