Canterbury-Bankstown has proven to be the place to be, with the launch of a new Eat Global Visit Local directory, which features cuisines from around the world.

Renowned pastry chef Anna Polyviou was amazed by the abundance of food offerings there are in the City.

“It was an unbelievable experience, I didn’t realise how much Canterbury-Bankstown had to offer,” Polyviou said.

“As soon as I stepped into An Restaurant in Bankstown the smell transported me to Vietnam, and the pho was absolutely amazing.

“I was even taken back to my home in Cyprus when I visited Trianon Cake Shop, a family run business in Earlwood.

“There was everything from the cypriot tahinopies, the galaktoboureko, the baklava, the Flaunes, there was so much on offer and all made in house.”

With more than 1,000 restaurants across Canterbury-Bankstown the options are endless.

Mayor Khal Asfour said the pandemic had revealed the importance of exploring our own backyard.

“The Eat Global Visit Local directory is an opportunity for visitors to unlock the flavours of the world in Canterbury-Bankstown,” Mayor Asfour said.

“There are so many great local businesses here, right on our doorstep!

“So, why not give them a try – I assure you won’t be disappointed.”

John Gebran, owner of Gebran Lebanese Cuisine in Mount Lewis, did not hesitate when opening his restaurant in Canterbury-Bankstown more than 20 years ago.

“Canterbury-Bankstown has been my backyard all my life, so when I wanted to share the traditional dishes of North Lebanon with my community it was an easy decision to open in Mount Lewis,” Mr Gebran said.

“Real food, real people, real flavour is what you get when you visit Gebran.

“The food at Gebran’s, whether it’s the kibbeh nayyeh, the sambousik, the tabouli, or anything on the menu, will transport you to Lebanon, and you will go home stuffed.”
