Ronald Lord

Ron was recognised as one of the finest goalkeepers produced in Australia. Brave, athletic, cool under pressure and a fitness fanatic his first representative honour was in 1950 when he was chosen for NSW against Queensland.

In 1951 he was won national selection to against England and he would continue to represent Australia until 1964.

Beginnings

Ron started as a schoolboy joining Rozelle when only 17 years of age in the position of fullback. An ankle injury limited his mobility and he returned to the game as a keeper. He came to the district in 1963 and would remain for over 30 years, residing in McEvoy Street, Padstow. He was a member of the Padstow RSL Soccer Club.

Achievements

He played for 18 years in the Australian first division, with three clubs Drummoyne SFC (1947-50), Auburn (1951-57), and SFC Prague (1957-65). He came to the district in 1963 and would remain for over 30 years, residing in McEvoy Street, Padstow. He was a member of the Padstow RSL Soccer Club. Ron also received the Sunday Telegraph‘s 1963 Soccer player of the year.

Post Representation

After his retirement as a player in 1966 he would spend many years as a goalie coach for several first division teams, including Western Suburbs, Bankstown.

.In 1999, the Australian Soccer Association established a Hall of Fame; Ron was awarded the highest award: member of Hall of Champions
