Robbie Slater

Robbie would be considered one of the most dynamic midfielders this country has produced. He would be selected to represent Australia at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the Socceroos would reach the Quarter Finals. Robbie would wear the green and gold in forty four matches.

Beginnings

Robbie was born in Lancashire UK and came to Australia as a youngster. He attended Picnic Point High and was a member of the School soccer team.

Robbie joined the Revesby Rovers as a 10 year old and stayed with them until 1978. At 17 years of age Robbie would be selected to play in the under 19 Australian Soccer team.

Achievements

Robbie moved to Blackburn Rovers in the UK at the end of the 1993 - 1994 season and became the first Australian to win the English FA Premier League.

Robbie played for the Australian “B” side and New South Wales representative sides.

Post Representation

When Robbie moved back to Australia he was appointed captain of the Northern Spirit, a new team in the National Soccer League. He would play with the team until his retirement at the end of the 2000 - 2001 season. Then, in 2002 he was appointed player-coach of Manly Warringah.

Since his retirement Robbie has written his autobiography 'The Hard Way'. He is also a senior analyst and commentator with Fox Sports.
