Rob' Dewhurst

Rob has the distinction of being a player on the 1st Olympic ice hockey team in 1960 and wore the green and gold as a member of the 1961–2 World Championship team that recorded Australia's historic first ever International win..

As a player and Assistant Coach Rob represented NSW many times at Goodall Cup level and continues to contribute to his sport.

Beginnings

Rob moved to the district after 1960 to open a cake shop at Padstow and lived in Clair Crescent, Padstow and Wattle Street, Punchbowl.

Achievements

Rob represented NSW on 42 occasions over 20 years and held 1st Grade Record Goals Score for NSW. He was also the Captain of the NSW team for 4 years. Rob was a member of the Olympic Federation 1975-78 and was on the 5 Circles Club Committee..

He actively fostered the Australian Old-timers League in Sydney, and travelled to many national and international Old-timers Tournaments and still plays hockey in his seventies. The Old-timers League Dewhurst Fair Play Trophy is named in his honour.

Post Representation

Rob became a Life Member of Ice Hockey Australia and was also a recipient of the Australian Sports Medal in 2000. Currently Rob is coach and mentor to many young players including many Northstar players (Newcastle).
