The City of Canterbury Bankstown is excited to finally welcome residents back into its facilities.

From Monday (11 October), many of Council’s services and facilities will reopen to the public.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said Council had been working hard behind the scenes to ensure it was ready for when restrictions eased.

“I can taste the freedom in the air and so can our residents,” Mayor Asfour said.

“I know we’ve waited a long time for this, but we must remember the new freedoms are for those fully vaccinated and come with strict rules.”

Council facilities that will be reopening, include:

• Libraries;
• Indoor pools (bookings required);
• Gyms (bookings required);
• Group fitness classes at Canterbury Leisure and Aquatic Centre (bookings required);
• Customer Service Centre (bookings required); and
• Community halls (Bookings available from 18 October).

“All premises will operate at one person per four square metres indoors and one person per two square metres outdoors, and visitors will need to show their COVID-19 vaccination certificate when checking in on arrival,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Over the coming weeks we’ll be reopening even more facilities, like the Bankstown Arts Centre, Bryan Brown Theatre and Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre.

“I am beyond excited about our new freedoms and can’t wait to have our fun City back and alive again!”
