Peter Tibbitts

Peter came to prominence in Surf Life Saving in 1972 as a member of Cronulla Surf Club when he was selected to represent NSW.

Between 1973-74 and 1987-88 he would reach the final of the Australian open belt championship on 13 of a possible 15 occasions, recording four firsts, three seconds two thirds and four fourths. There is no beltman in the history of surf lifesaving who can match Peter's record.

    Beginnings

    Peter would come to the District in 1955 and would reside in Hill Road, Birrong until 1982 He was member of the Birrong Amateur Swimming Club and would hold many swimming records in the area.

    Achievements

    Peter reached the pinnacle of Surf Life Saving by his selection in three Australian Teams 1975, 1980 and 1982. In sixteen seasons from 1972-73 to 1987-88 Peter won 19 medals and took 9 Australian titles in surf belt, R&R and surf teams events.

    Post Representation

    Peter's sporting prowess was acknowledged by The Surf Life Saving (SLS) Hall of Fame. Peter is considered the greatest belt swimmer Australia has produced.
