Electronic speed warning signs will be positioned around Canterbury-Bankstown, to help keep speeding down and safety up.

Two portable “smiley face” speed signs have been purchased by Council, and will be trialled as an alternative to speed humps, slow points and roundabouts, to slow vehicles down in areas where speed is an issue.

A City of Canterbury Bankstown spokesperson said the signs are part Council’s commitment to keeping everyone safe on and around our roads.

“The safety of our community is paramount – whether you are a motorist, resident or pedestrian,” said the spokesperson.

“The first sign will be located at the Horsley Road in Panania, which was tragically the site of a fatality earlier in the year. The other sign will be placed at Seymour Parade in Belfield.

“They will remain at this location for about three months before being moved to another.”

The signs record individual vehicles 100 metres before the sign and 50 metres past the sign, giving Council valuable data so it can determine the peak times that speeding is an issue.
