Mark Waugh

Mark was one of the worlds most elegant and gifted strokemakers and he would complement these skills as a medium-pacer-cum-offspinner bowler.

Mark would be the first player to score back-to-back centuries as well as to hit three centuries in a World Cup tournament.

Beginnings

Mark was born and educated in the District attending Panania Public School and become a member of Bankstown-Canterbury District Cricket Club.

While attending East Hills Boys High School he won a CHS Blue for Cricket in 1984. Mark represented Australia in International competition at U/19 National Team level and was playing Sheffield Shield cricket by twenty in 1985.

Achievements

Mark made his first class debut in the 1985/1986 Season. His selection to play for Australia in One Day Internationals would happen in 1988 but he would have to wait until 1991 to be selected to play Test Cricket.

Mark made his name as a middle-order player for New South Wales in the late 1980s, twice winning the Sheffield Shield Cricketer of the Year titles as he built and maintained a first-class average in excess of fifty.

Post Representation

In 2005 Mark was awarded the Order of Australia and in 2011 Mark became a sports journalist for the Sydney Morning Herald and Fox Sports.
