Mayor’s message

It’s been a busy start to the year as we work towards our goal of delivering more than $50 million in upgrades to create a City you love.

Our work to improve play spaces continues, with recent playground upgrades completed at Deverall Park, Condell Park, Padstow Heights and The Crest Complex, Bass Hill while sports field upgrades reach completion across our City.

Construction is underway on new amenities buildings at Waterworth Park, Earlwood and Allum Park, Greenacre.

Across our City, we’re continuing to construct new footpaths and upgrade our roads while also working on the planning and design of major infrastructure projects, including Panania Library and Knowledge Centre, Belmore Town Centre upgrade and Roberts Park Community Hub in Greenacre.

For residents seeking local indoor activities, I encourage you to visit one of our nine Library and Knowledge Centres which offer an extensive collection of resources, services and entertainment for all ages.

If you’re wanting to enjoy the outdoors, why not choose from more than 600 parks or participate in upcoming events along our City’s beloved rivers.

Regards,

Mayor Bilal El-Hayek
Upgrades to sports and play spaces

We’re continuing to upgrade sports and play spaces across our City.

Recently completed projects include upgrades to amenities, lighting and sports fields at The Crest Complex in Bass Hill and Beaman Park in Earlwood. Nearing completion are upgrades to the Croydon Park sports field and soccer club house at Parry Park, Lakemba.

Recent play space upgrades include the playgrounds at Bennett Park, Riverwood and Deverall Park, Condell Park plus the basketball court at Killara Reserve in Revesby.

Pedestrian-friendly town centres

Hurlstone Park Town Centre joins the list of recent road upgrades to improve pedestrian safety across our City.

New traffic calming measures along Duntroon Street and Foss Street, including flat-top speed humps and an upgraded pedestrian refuge, have been installed to lower the speed limit to 40km/hour, increasing safety for pedestrians and drivers.

Funding for this project is in partnership with the NSW Government under the Safer Speeds Program 2023/24.

New indoor play centre at MIISC

A vibrant new play centre at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre, Riverwood (MIISC) is now open!

Kids aged 0-8 can explore, learn, and have fun – rain or shine – while adults can relax in comfort.

Have Your Say Youth Action Plan

We’re currently seeking feedback to help develop Council’s next Youth Action Plan (2025/29).

The plan sets priorities to help improve the lives of young people in our City and guide our work with young people, the community and service providers over the next few years.

Illegal dumping reduced by half

We’ve reduced illegal dumping of business waste by 50% at Saigon Place, Bankstown and Punchbowl Town Centre.

We tested a new approach that focused on working with businesses to make sure they have sufficient waste services.

We also increased patrols and camera monitoring to find areas needing greater focus. Through education and enforcement, illegal dumping at these centres has reduced by half. Now, we’ll be using this successful approach in more town centres to ensure cleaner, more inviting spaces for our community.
