So outstanding were Lionel's baseball performances that he was automatically selected to represent Australia for nine consecutive years from 1980 to 1988, playing more than 200 games for the National side.

Beginnings
Lionel grew up in Bankstown, attending Bankstown Infants Primary School, Bankstown Boys' High School and Bankstown Technical College. In 1973 be began playing Baseball with Bankstown Juniors Under 15 years. The following year he was selected for the Cumberland inter-district team, the City team, NSW team, and named in the Australian All Star Team. He represented NSW Combined High School (1974, 1975, and 1976) and won CHS Honours ‘Blue Award' for Baseball in 1976.
Achievements
In 1979/80 he began his international career as a member of the Australian National Team to tour Japan & Korea. In August 1985, during the Intercontinental Cup Series played between 8 nations, Lionel was named Australia's best player and achieved something that no other Australian Baseball player has ever achieved he was named in the World All-Star baseball team.
Post Representation
Lionel's outstanding contribution to the sport of baseball continues and in 2010, Sydney Major League Awards night became known as the Lionel Harris Awards to honour players from all grades from Sydney Major League competition.
