​Buckle up your helmets and put on your joggers – because Ewen Park’s new $3.8 million pedestrian and cycle bridge is open and ready to enjoy.

The new bridge will improve the way pedestrians and cyclists share the precinct and connect the Cooks River Cycleway and surrounding areas.

City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said he was thrilled to open the bridge to the public.

“Not only will cyclists no longer need to dismount while crossing the Cooks River, the new wider and angled bridge, now provides a more interesting journey over the river,” Mayor Asfour said.

“We’ve also been able to complete this project from start to finish in just 12 short weeks, as the main structure of the bridge was built prior to being assemble onsite.”

“The bridge upgrade was a direct outcome of community consultation during the exhibition of the draft Ewen Park Improvement Program, which ran from November 2018 to January 2019.

As part of the project, Council has also:

• Constructed a grant-funded brand new all-access kayak launch pad;
• Constructed a new path made of crushed sandstone between Lang Road and Younger Avenue in Earlwood
• Landscaped along the banks of the river.
