Canterbury still considers John Greaves among the finest centres to play for the club and he established himself in an era that produced so many great backs. A powerful player with strong fend, Greaves took over the Captaincy of Canterbury in the 1970s until he left the Sydney scene at the end of 1972 and joined Campbelltown City.

Beginnings
In 1964 John joined Canterbury and after being injured in the pre-season, he played first grade in the second half of the season, making his debut against his former club St George on the wing. In 1965, John became a regular member of the first grade team playing at centre. He managed to remain a regular member of the first grade team for the next seven seasons.
Achievements
John played eight Tests for Australia, the first in the Second Test against Great Britain in 1966 and not once in his career did he play in a losing Test match. He also played the four World Cup matches in Australia in 1968 again in winning teams each time.
