The City of Canterbury Bankstown kicks off its bonanza of festive activities today – a major highlight this year, will be Santa’s tour of the City in a Cadillac.

Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour said he was proud to launch the City’s jam-packed program of COVID-Safe Christmas activities.

“The spirit of Christmas will truly be felt in Canterbury-Bankstown this year, despite us being unable to hold large-scale events,” Mayor Asfour said.

“Using the money that is normally spent on events, like our Carols at Wiley Park, we’re spreading the festive cheer further around the City than we’ve ever been able to do before.

“Christmas is a time of celebration and coming together with family and friends, so I’m proud to announce this massive program of activities.”

Here’s what is new this year:

  • Installation and lighting of seven Christmas trees in town centres around Canterbury-Bankstown;
  • The Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre will be lit in Christmas colours each night in December;
  • A Magical Christmas in CBCity augmented reality experience at each tree location;
  • Santa’s Christmas Caddy will tour the City throughout December;
  • Council will assist Padstow Rotary Club to live stream their carols event;
  • #EatGlobalVisitLocal Christmas edition;
  • Christmas crafts online workshops, in partnership with our nine Library and Knowledge Centre;
  • Christmas elves and their friends will be making surprise visits to town centres throughout December; and
  • Launch of the new Canterbury-Bankstown Christmas Lights Trail.

“Although we cannot all come together to sing carols or light the Christmas trees, you can all still join us online,” Mayor Asfour said.

“It is also a great time to support our local businesses. Life has been tough for all of us through this pandemic, so why not spread some Christmas joy and visit your local eatery or buy presents from one of our many local businesses.”
