Electric vehicle charging stations
Find a public charging station near you
Electric vehicle (EV) owners will soon have more places to recharge! We’re installing a mix of 22kWh AC and 55kWh DC off-street EV chargers at 12 locations across the City – all powered by 100% renewable electricity.
Installing these chargers and transitioning to more electric vehicles are essential steps toward achieving our goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. In 2025 Council endorsed the CBCity Electric Vehicle Charging Action Plan to support residents in transitioning to low-emission EVs and ensuring that charging infrastructure is available in a strategic and sustainable way.
Over the next two months, EV chargers will be installed in the following suburbs:
| Chester Hill | Earlwood | Revesby | Greenacre |
| Yagoona | Ashbury | Padstow | Riverwood |
| Birrong | Lakemba | Panania | Bankstown |

All EV charger parking bays are restricted to 2 hours only when charging – from 6am-10pm every day. You cannot park in the car space if you are not charging your car. Please note, these restrictions also apply to Mobily Parking Permit holders.
If you park longer than the 2-hour limit, you will be charged a fee of $1.00 per minute.
Council’s fees and charges are reviewed on an annual basis. The following fees apply for EV charging and include GST:
- Until 30 June 2026, the fee is $0.44 per kWh
- From 1 July 2026-30 June 2027, the fee will be $0.50 per kWh
- From 1 July 2026, an idle fee of $1.00 per minute of overstay will be charged (more information provided in the following question).
Yes, from 1 July 2026 idle fees will apply if you stay longer than the 2-hour limit. After reaching the 2-hour limit, you will be prompted through the Exploren app to move your vehicle and are given a 10-minute grace period to do so.
If the EV has not been moved after the 10-minute grace period, you will be charged an idle fee of $1.00 per minute. You could also be fined by a parking inspector for exceeding the 2-hour limit.
Moving your car once it's done charging is good EV etiquette. It helps avoid congestion, reduces wait times and makes it easier for the next person who needs to charge their car. These fees are designed to encourage EV owners to unplug their vehicles promptly and move their cars, ensuring better availability for other users. Please note you cannot park your car in an EV charging spot if you are not charging your car.
Yes. NSW Road Rule 203C applies to:
- Parking a non‑electric vehicle in a designated EV charging bay, or
- Parking an EV in a designated EV charging bay without actively charging.
If you do not follow these rules, you could be fined up to $2,200 (20 penalty units). Please note, Mobility Parking Permit holders also must follow these rules.
No. A Mobility Parking Scheme permit does not allow a vehicle to park in a designated EV charging bay unless all conditions of use are met. These conditions include:
- The vehicle must be an electric vehicle,
- The vehicle must be actively connected to and charging from the EV charger, and
- Any posted signage and time limits must be followed.
Fines may apply if these conditions are not met.
Exploren provides 24/7 fault monitoring and automated fault recovery using advanced AI and machine learning. When a fault occurs, the system will automatically try to fix the issue remotely.
If you find a charger that is not working, you can contact Exploren for technical support:
- Call 1300 755 087 (Monday-Friday from 7am-11:59pm; Saturday and Sunday from 10am-10pm)
- Email help@exploren.com.au
All EV chargers have attached charging cables, so drivers do not need to bring their own. This helps protect the charger from damage caused by incompatible, low-quality or faulty cables.
If the charging cables are damaged, the charger will not work and an alert will be sent to the Exploren support team to investigate and arrange for repairs.
