Originally from Wagga Wagga in country NSW, Greg would demonstrate early his strong kicking game and catching under pressure. Under the new game where the ‘bomb' was such an integral part, kicking and catching prowess was vital in a fullback's credentials. Beginnings
Greg attended Maria Goretti and Bishop Henschke Primary and St Michael's & Trinity High Schools.
Achievements
From 1980 to 1983 Greg played thirteen test matches for Australia, including the 1982 Kangaroo Tour. He also played 13 minor games on the 1982 Kangaroo tour and the 1980 New Zealand tour.
Due to injury, it took several seasons for him to produce his best with the 1980 season proving the turning point in his career. Greg would be selected for NSW and to represent Australia with two Test appearances against NZ.
Post Representation
In 1983, after an injury-plagued year, Greg retired from football at age 26, taking up the position of RL development officer in the Riverina area for 13 years. In 1998 Brentnall joined former team-mate Chris Anderson as assistant coach of the Melbourne Storm and in 2012 became the General Manager of Melbourne Storm Development.
